Autoline – Pompei to Perugia (2006 / 2025)
In memory of Fernando Grillo (1945–2013)

This work revisits a personal journey taken almost twenty years ago — a bus and train trip from Pompei to Perugia to bid farewell to my teacher, the Italian double bassist and composer Fernando Grillo, before returning to Australia. The scanned ticket from that day became the foundation for the album’s visual identity.

The composition embodies movement — a continuous line from south to north, from student to independent artist. The use of the motor-bow on the acoustic double bass transforms mechanical motion into vibration, drawing parallels between the rhythm of travel and the continuity of sound.

Autoline – Pompei to Perugia is both a farewell and a return: a journey translated into resonance, memory, and time.
